Level 2: Pilates Reformer

September 28, 2018

275 hours

**THE PILATES REFORMER PROGRAM WILL BE OFFERED IN-PERSON AND ONLINE VIA ZOOM IN 2022**

Pilates Level 2: Reformer builds on the concepts learned in Pilates Level 1: Mat. Postural and functional assessments serve as the backdrop to more than 150 exercises and modifications. We focus on exercises performed on the Pilates Reformer apparatus, progressing through beginner, intermediate and advanced repertoire. Upon completion, you will have the confidence and expertise to build bodies with balanced strength and flexibility, improve movement and function, manage injuries and how to fine-tune athletic performance. You also develop skills to teach functional and challenging Reformer group classes and one-on-one sessions.

Course Pre-requisites

Pilates Level 1: Mat or equivalent recognized program AND Anatomy for Motion pre-requisite course
120

Pilates Mat Work (Level 1) provides you with the tools to design mat classes for people of all ages and abilities. You learn the complete Mat Work Repertoire. Our unique certification program emphasizes core stabilization systems, movement mechanics, and versatile class design principles.

If you have already completed a recognized minimum 6-hour anatomy program within the last 5 years, the Anatomy in Motion course is not required.  The Anatomy in Motion course literally changes the way you think about, observe, and feel human movement. Fun and interactive, the human structure comes alive, and you gain new insights into how the body moves from different perspectives. The ultimate goal of this course is to help you understand how movement is produced at all major joints, which lays the groundwork for accurate neuromuscular recruitment, joint mobility, and core control.

Recommended Textbook: “Return to Life through Contrology” by Joseph H. Pilates

Practice teaching (minimum 120 hours):

Practice teaching involves conducting one-on-one reformer sessions with individuals who agree to act as practice clients. Practice teaching hours may be completed at ReActive Movement during agreed times – details to be discussed in the program. Practice clients pay a nominal fee of $40 by cash to the Studio per one-hour session. If you conduct your practice teaching hours elsewhere, fees are set at the facility’s discretion. You’re required to keep track of your practice teaching hours on special log sheets, and to have your practice clients sign in for each session.

Self-practice/Self-study (minimum 100 hours):

The self-practice component consists of practicing on a Reformer whether on your own or with your peers, or may also include taking Pilates Reformer classes. Self-practice hours are available at ReActive Movement for a nominal fee per session hour. Our teachers-in-training are entitled to the exclusive class drop-in rates of $20 per class. If you’re completing your hours elsewhere, fees are at the discretion of facility management.
